The Island is 33 miles long and 10 miles wide. It has a fascinating
and colourful landscape from rugged coastlines and rocky shores to
rolling hills and busy towns, covering over 227 square miles.
The Island is not as densely populated as other leading offshore
centres, having only 75,000 residents, making for a better quality
of life in general. With 500 miles of open roads, traffic congestion,
although on the increase, is not nearly as bad as that experienced
by UK motorists.
The influence of the Irish Sea moderates extremes of weather conditions,
and provides for warmer Winters and cooler Summers. Snow and frost
are infrequent, although the Island does receive more than it's
fair share of wind and rain.
Transport links are excellent; A number of airlines serve many
UK and Irish destinations on a daily basis, please see below for a list of airlines and there routes.
There are year round sailings from Douglas, the Islands capital to Liverpool, Dublin, Belafast, Heysham and Birkenhead.
The above sailings are subject to the time of year. For more information please see below under Isle of Man Steam Packet.
The local telecommunications infrastrucure is one of the most advanced
in the world, and with strong links between Government and industry,
the Island is currently striving to be a centre of e-commerce excellence.
